Justin VERBOOMEN
Dressage rider
Double European Champion
First Belgian to become World Number One
Born in 1987, Justin discovered horse riding at a young age at a local stable, where his father was a riding instructor. After exploring several equestrian disciplines, he developed a passion for dressage and Lusitano horses during his teenage years.
Recognised early for his natural talent, he pursued a professional career alongside Lusitano breeders in Belgium. He gained international recognition through the MCI competitions (Masters du Cheval Ibérique), becoming a multiple-time European Champion.
With Tamino, the first horse he trained entirely on his own, Justin reached the Grand Prix level in 2015. However, his career took a decisive turn with Zonik Plus, acquired as a two-year-old in 2018. Together, they won the Belgian Young Horse Championships from 2021 to 2023 and placed sixth at the 2022 Young Horses World Championship.

In December 2024, Justin and Zonik Plus—then only eight years old—made history by winning the World Cup Grand Prix in Mechelen, setting a new Belgian record.
The 2025 season confirmed his place among the world’s elite: 14 victories, Belgium’s first-ever Nations Cup dressage win, triumphs at CHIO Aachen and the Top 12 Final in Frankfurt, and two European Championship titles in Crozet. He became World Number 1 in September 2025 and received the FEI Best Athlete Award, recognising the best rider of the year across all disciplines.
Driven by passion, precision and an exceptional bond with his horses, Justin continues to pursue excellence at the highest level of international dressage.
